Does anyone understand what I am feeling and going through?

Dear pastor,

Do you ever feel like absolutely no one completely understands your call or the work you are attempting to do?

Well-meaning people try to connect and understand but until you personally carry the weight of the spiritual condition of a person’s soul, or the state of a church or the eternal implications of ministry, other people won’t quite understand.

Now hopefully we can lead people to a place where they hear God’s own call on their life to be disciple-makers. Hopefully they will begin to feel the burden of caring for the spiritual well-being of their kids/family. And yet, until you have been a pastor, it seems like no one else fully understands.

Except Jesus.

He gets it. He understands.

He has felt the loneliness of ministry.

And the rejection. And the resistance.

Jesus knows what it is to care more about the condition of someone’s soul than they personally care about it.

Jesus knows what it is to see the pain their choices are causing and yet them not being willing to come to Him for help, healing and deliverance.

May we go to Jesus, our Savior, our brother, our confidant and share our stories of pain and the burden of ministry with Him. May we go to God, the One who is all-knowing and all-wise, to receive instruction on how to live, how to minister/serve and what to say to people along the way. May we rely on the Holy Spirit, who is ever with us, to source us and flow through us to others.

Jesus understands. Not only does Jesus understand but He sees our own personal struggle and pain and invites us to come to Him for rest. Thank you for being faithful to God’s call on your life. Now remember to run to Him who sustains you through it all.
